The Basics Of Heat Engines

Marine Engineers mainly work on heat engines and internal combustion engines are one of the most important types of heat engines. We are starting a series on IC or Internal Combustion engines which we will continue over time but let us start with the very basics and first of all let us find out what is mean by heat engines.

Please also note that though we are discussing mainly in context of marine engines which are mostly diesel, yet this discussion and principles hold good for all types of heat engines so at this stage do not confuse or think about type of fuel used but only the basic underlying working principle
